Helping You

The National Parrot Sanctuary can help you in a number of ways:

Parrot advice

Parrots are evolving very slowly as pets and with that a number of common problems appear, here at the National Parrot Sanctuary we have come across most of them and therefore feel we understand their needs.

If you require any advice on your parrot please telephone: 0871 384 1130

Re-homing Your Parrot:
Sadly the percentage of parrots that remain with same owners is very little due a number of reasons but mainly due to the fact they live so long and our lives change, its all well and good people saying, "You should have found all this out before you bought him" true, but we all make mistakes and it is rectifying the mistake that is paramount. First of all, do not feel guilty! Most parrot sellers know what the problems are before selling you the bird and they never mention anything, its fine now that there are plenty of advisory services around but there weren't that many 5 or so years ago when you got yours. People had no one to turn to in the past so passed their loving pet on to what they thought was the most loving family etc.

Now you don't have to go through that dilemma, we can work with you and offer your parrot or parakeet a long-term secure future here at the centre, no one is ever judged and no bird is ever turned away, all we want is the same as you, a happy bird that can once again be a bird.

If this is something you are considering and want to know what to do next here's a few pointers;

If you can get here to see where your bird will be living please do, it really does assure you when you see the lovely environment they will be living at.

If you can't then why not purchase a DVD so you can still see the centre but in the comfort of your own home. To purchase a DVD click here.

Once you have made your decision you can either,

Bring your bird and his belongings (no appointments needed) just telephone us on 0871 384 1130 to inform us you are on your way and we will have one of our carers waiting to greet you.

If this isn't possible then we can send one of our parrot friendly ambulances down to collect him/her. We are very sorry but we do have to ask for a small donation to assist towards the actual fuel costs. If this something you would like to do please click here and one of our admin staff will contact you within 7 working days regarding the collection.

The future for you and your parrot

One of our biggest worries as pet parrot owners is; because these birds have a tendency to live for many years, who will look after him once I've gone?

Now you do not have to worry about this anymore, The National Parrot Sanctuary is contacted on a daily basis from worried people concerned about this dilemma so we have set up a register whereby taking a little information from you now can help tremendously should anything detrimental happen to you.

All you need to do is complete our online registration form where we will log all the relevant details and should we need to send our emergency ambulance down to collect your bird we know exactly what he/she will need on arrival, where possible on the dietary side we will continue with the existing diet until we feel appropriate to include the centres diet. This facility is free of charge and is primarily aimed at giving you peace of mind, please do not forget that for us to know about your bird you need to log all the details with either your next of kin or solicitors.
