A Brief Overview
The National Parrot Sanctuary aims to create a luxurious and rich environment for pet and captive bred parrots throughout the United Kingdom. We aim and strive towards forming a greater understanding of the social and behavioral needs of parrots both in the wild and captivity.
By doing this we aim to raise awareness of the demands of parrots in pet environments with the goal of reducing the number of self mutated and rescued parrots each year within the United Kingdom. Our first step towards achieving this is providing long term shelter and housing to rescued parrots, allowing them to live freely within large aviaries.
2008 Aims & Objectives
To continue and develop our mission, The National Parrot Sanctuary is currently aiming to achieve the following objective for 2007:

The Carbon Project

Carbon footprints ? What are they?
A Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. Sadly we all make one on our day to day living and it's not helping the environment one little bit.

We here at the Parrot Zoo have set our selves the target of reducing ours and all our staffs by planting over 10,000 trees in and around the center over the next 3 years.

You can help offset yours and help the charity too by sponsoring one of the many trees we aim to plant. How? It's easy, just send a donation of £12.50 via Paypal and we will do the rest, we will plant you a tree and maintain it for the rest of its life. In return you will receive a certificate showing you exactly the species of tree and where it is planted so you can visit it whenever you please.

Why not buy one for your family or a birthday present, this is today's modern gift where you help the environment in return for a lifetime present.

NPS Nature Reserve

New for 2007 will be the creation of a Nature Reserve to assist in our carbon reduction project. We hope to develop a wonderful reserve where you can leisurely walk around the lakes and woodlands and learn more about the environment, from endangered trees and grasses to rare British birds that are on the brink of extinction. Whatever you like this will be a fulfilling and educational day.

Our nature reserve will include a large 2 acre lake with a secluded island. Additionally our woodland will include a nature walk allowing schools and groups to take a predefined educational walk through the woodland with various activities to complete along the way.

NPS Social Enterprise

What is a Social Enterprise?

Social enterprises are dynamic businesses with a social purpose working all around the UK and internationally to deliver a lasting social and environmental change.

The National Parrot Sanctuary is in the process of attaining such status in order to grow to the size it needs to maintain the high standards it sets for itself while catering for the ever increasing numbers of birds. This is a continually expanding project and will be in permanent development for the next three years.

If you would like to get involved with this please feel free to contact us for a friendly informal chat.

Children's Maize Maze

New for 2008 and intended to run annually is our Maize maze. A huge 5 acre maze that will be loads of fun for both adults and children trying to locate your way through this massive maze with just a few special planted clues.

The maze only lasts for a few weeks before we have to harvest it to which it will then be used to feed the many parrots here in the center. Now that's what we call ‘Recycling'.

Keep watching this space for updated information on the maze and future 'recycling' projects.

Cafe / Bar Building Extension

Plans are now being drawn up for a major new development here at the center to include:

A themed Café/Bar extension where a massive new restaurant will be constructed to a tropical feel which will seat over 150 people. A new bar area will be installed allowing you to have a cool drink while awaiting your seat to eat. This will be accentuated by a wonderful conservatory which will be situated within the free flying area so you can safely eat your food while watching the parrots do their fabulous displays up above.

Museum, an interactive educational museum will be constructed so you can learn about the general make up of parrots and their abilities. See just how strong they are in comparison to humans, how quick they grow and how many times they go to the loo in one day….

This will all be set within a serene court yard where, once you have had your little bit of amusement, you can sit and relax with a cool drink while feeding the tame parrots.
